What Is the 10-Day Island Hopper?
The 10-Day Island Hopper is Malama Tours’ flagship guided journey — a fully hosted, nine-night trip across three of Hawaiʻi’s most distinct islands, in a small group of no more than 12 guests. Begin on Oʻahu with Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, a surf lesson, and a luau. Fly to Hawaiʻi Island for Volcanoes National Park, a Manta Ray night snorkel, and the Kona coast. Then finish on Maui with a Haleakalā sunrise and a Molokini sail — every flight, transfer, and detail handled for you.
The Journey at a Glance
Welcome to Oʻahu
Arrive in Honolulu, where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Settle in and ease into island time, then join your group for a hosted welcome dinner to meet your fellow travelers and preview the journey ahead.
Pearl Harbor & North Shore
A morning at Pearl Harbor, including the USS Arizona Memorial. Head north with a stop at Dole Plantation, then lunch and shave ice in Haleʻiwa town. Cruise Oʻahu’s famous North Shore — legendary surf breaks and laid-back beach towns — before returning to Honolulu.
Surf & Celebration
Take part in a professionally guided surf lesson this morning (optional, but included for everyone). Afternoon at leisure in Waikiki, then celebrate with a traditional Oʻahu luau of island cuisine and cultural performance, back at the hotel by about 10:00 PM.
Hawaiʻi Island: Volcano to Kona
Fly from Honolulu to Hilo and meet your local guide to explore Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park — lava fields, geology, and dramatic landscapes. Continue across the island from Hilo to Kona and check into your hotel.
Manta Night
A relaxed morning in Kona — beach, town, or an optional activity. This evening, experience one of Hawaiʻi’s most unforgettable wildlife encounters: a guided Manta Ray Night Snorkel.
South Kona Explorer
Explore the Kona coast — visit Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, enjoy optional snorkeling at Two Step, and tour a Kona coffee farm for a tasting. Gather in the evening for a Big Island farewell dinner.
Kona to Maui
Morning flight from Kona to Kahului, where you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel on Maui’s south shore. The afternoon is yours to settle into the Wailea resort area, with an optional Grand Wailea beach day available.
Haleakalā Sunrise
A pre-dawn drive brings you to the summit of Haleakalā for sunrise above the clouds — one of the Pacific’s great natural spectacles. Stop in Upcountry Maui — paniolo country and lavender farms — on the way back, with an optional guided downhill bike descent available. Afternoon at leisure.
Molokini & Farewell
Board Sail Maui’s catamaran at Māʻalaea Harbor for a morning snorkel at Molokini Crater, a protected marine preserve with 250+ fish species and visibility over 100 feet — continental breakfast on the way out, freshly prepared lunch and open bar on the return. Afternoon free, then a Sunset Sips farewell gathering at the Wailea Beach Resort.

Transfer to Kahului Airport for your departure flight. Optional post-tour extensions are available for guests who wish to stay a little longer.

Why the Island Hopper
Two islands that couldn’t be more different — sequenced to work together.
Oʻahu is history, energy, and surf culture. Hawaiʻi Island is raw geology, ancient culture, and open coast. Most visitors choose one. The Island Hopper gives you both — in an order and at a pace that makes each feel complete.
The manta ray night snorkel.
This isn’t a bolt-on add-on. It’s included. The manta rays that gather off the Kona coast at night are one of the most genuinely extraordinary wildlife experiences in the Pacific. We built it into the itinerary because it belongs there.
A route most visitors never take.
The Hilo-to-Kona cross-island transfer on Day 4 takes you through terrain that most Big Island visitors never see. It’s one of the most scenic drives in Hawaiʻi and a reminder of just how large and diverse this island is. Your guide knows every mile of it.
Max 12 guests. Every time.
This isn’t a coach tour. Your guide knows your name on Day 1 and remembers it on Day 7. The experience is designed for a small group, and we keep it that way.
