Itinerary 2: Experiencing Oahu’s Culture and History

Oahu is a unique and vibrant island that boasts a rich history and cultural heritage, making it the perfect destination for travelers interested in experiencing the cultural and historical aspects of Hawaii. One of the best ways to explore Oahu’s culture and history is through a well-planned itinerary, and in this article, we will introduce you to an exciting itinerary that includes some of the most popular cultural and historical attractions on the island.
The first stop on this itinerary is iconic Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial, a poignant reminder of the attack that drew America into World War II. Visitors can explore the historic site, pay their respects at the memorial, and learn about the events that shaped American history.

For this we have the Pearl Harbor Tour. While you can book this as a private tour, we suggest you don’t because the only part that will be private is the 25 minute drive to and from Pearl Harbor. While you are at Pearl Harbor there will be unavoidable crowds and guided tours are not allowed in the national park. There are only audio tours, which we recommend. So book the Pearl Harbor Tour, which includes a visit to downtown Honolulu.

This part is key to a better experience and money savings. Tell your tour guide that you would like to be dropped off downtown. Be sure to tell him/her before leaving Pearl Harbor and remember to tip your guide.

Then do a self-guided walking tour of downtown Honolulu, the bustling heart of the island that is steeped in history and culture. You can explore historic landmarks such as the Iolani Palace, the Kawaiahao Church, and the Hawaii State Capitol, as well as eating in Chinatown. You can get Ubers back to Waikiki for approximately $10-15.

Finally, going to a luau is a quintessential Hawaiian experience that should not be missed when visiting Oahu. It is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Polynesian culture, enjoy delicious food, and witness breathtaking performances. Mele Luau, located at Coral Crater Adventure Park in Kapolei, is a highly recommended option. The luau showcases various aspects of Hawaiian culture, such as hula dancing, fire knife dancing, and traditional music. In addition to the entertainment, the meal is also a highlight, featuring an all-you-can-eat buffet of Hawaiian cuisine, including kalua pig, poke, and poi. Overall, a luau at Mele Luau is an excellent way to create unforgettable memories with your group while experiencing the best of Hawaiian culture.

Here is what Experiencing Oahu’s Culture and History in one day would look like:

6:30am Depart Waikiki for Pearl Harbor Tour
