Our Story
Malama Tours is a Hawaii-based guided tour company operating small-group tours across Oʻahu, Maui, Kauaʻi, and Hawaiʻi Island.
We started with a van, a guide, and a belief that the best way to experience these islands is slowly, intentionally, and with someone who actually knows them. That hasn’t changed.
Today we operate across all four major islands — building itineraries ourselves, running them in vehicles we own, with guides we trust. We are a tour operator first. We design the trip, put you in our vehicle, and take you there.
Where we bring in outside partners — whether for a snorkel excursion, a cultural experience, or a multi-day journey — we do it selectively. Every operator we work with has been vetted by us personally. We stand behind every experience on our lineup, whether we’re running it or coordinating it.
Why Choose Malama Tours for Your Hawaii Experience
A local Hawaii tour operator — not a booking platform.
Small groups by design.
Our Hawaii day tours cap at 13 guests. Our multi-day tours take no more than 12. This is a structural decision that shapes everything — how your guide engages, where we can take you, and the quality of the experience from start to finish.
Our vehicles. Our guides. Our routes.
We operate a fleet of premium vehicles and work with guides we know and trust. When you travel with Malama Tours, you’re not handed off to whoever is available that day. The person guiding you knows the story behind every stop.
Curated, not aggregated.
We make the most of your time in Hawaii by designing authentic adventures that let you experience the best of these islands in a single day — or across multiple islands. Every experience we offer has been evaluated and chosen deliberately. We’re not a marketplace. We’re a tour company with a point of view.
Designed for travelers who want more than a highlight reel.
Whether you’ve never been to Hawaii or you’re coming back for the fifth time, our tours are built for people who want to go deeper — not just check boxes.
Malama Commitment
We keep groups small.
Smaller groups mean less impact on sensitive environments and cultural sites across Hawaii — and a better experience for every guest.
We support local.
Our guides are local. The partners we work with are local. When we recommend a coffee farm, a cultural site, or a family-run lunch spot, it’s because we know the people behind it.
We move with intention.
Every itinerary decision is a choice about what’s worth your time — and what’s worth protecting.
We mālama our team.
Our guides and staff are the heart of every trip. We invest in the people who represent us — because a guide who feels valued delivers an experience guests remember.
We mālama our partners.
The operators and businesses we work with are chosen because we respect what they do. We treat those relationships with the same care we bring to our guests.
We take the name seriously.
Mālama iā Hawaiʻi. It’s not a tagline. It’s the operating principle behind every trip we run.
Our Mission
“Mālama means to care for. We take that seriously — caring for our islands, our neighbors, our employees, our partners, and our visitors through support for native forest restoration, regenerative tourism, and endangered species conservation.”
Our Core Values
- Safety and fun, always. Our guides know this and we never forget it.
- We take care of our guests and our islands.
- Communication makes for a better day.
- We are grateful to be in Hawaiʻi every day.
